Near Senai International Airport in Malaysia, a unique attraction has been available since August 2026. Under the name “1975 Avenue & Hotel,” a luxury hotel has opened, with suites located in two decommissioned Boeing 747s.
If you want to feel like you’re above the clouds without taking off, there’s now a special accommodation option in Malaysia. The newly opened luxury hotel “1975 Avenue & Hotel” by the local company Tiong Nam in Johor Bahru offers just that. Originally founded as a cargo company in 1975, it expanded into the upscale hotel market with a rather unusual idea. Since August 2026, you can book a suite located in one of two old, converted Boeing 747s. Bove and Bey, the names of the two retired planes, offer guests quite extraordinary rooms.
As reported by the trade journal “aerotelegraph,” both aircraft were once active in air traffic. One flew for Japan Airlines, the other for PanAm. Before being repurposed as an unusual luxury hotel, both planes stood for years at Senai International Airport, with the Japanese aircraft there since 1998. In 2019, they were dismantled and rebuilt on the site where “1975 Avenue & Hotel” now stands. They may no longer take off, but they now transport guests to cloud nine.
Luxury Comes at a Price

There are different sizes and types available: Premium Suite, Business Suite, Captain Suite, and Signature Suite. Photos on the hotel’s official website show simply and modernly furnished rooms. Some even span two floors. Definitely more legroom than you’d have on a regular flight, but of course, that comes at a price. However, you get quite a bit in return; for example, the Premium Suite features a living room separate from the sleeping area, a freestanding bathtub, and a rainforest shower. In total, 18 of these special accommodations are available across both planes. An additional 20 rooms are located in a comparatively normal, attached building.
Even outside their suites, guests of the two planes don’t have to forgo luxury. They have access to a spa, sauna, gym, restaurants, pools, an artificial beach, and event spaces. Each room in the old Boeing 747s is thematically different and dedicated to various countries, including Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. On the official website of “1975 Avenue & Hotel”, the rooms are currently available for around 276 euros per night. Interestingly, the price remains the same across different categories when making a booking inquiry.
More Airplane Hotels
An employee in the hotel’s sales and marketing department told TRAVELBOOK: “On August 8, 2026, we had our soft opening and welcomed our first guests. We’ve opened a true lifestyle destination.” The site is 19,500 square meters and offers parking for 773 vehicles. “Our guests can expect a comprehensive, luxurious experience with an airplane theme, in spacious cabins with a vintage look.” The location is also offered for events and weddings on the company’s official website.
If you don’t want to fly to Malaysia, there are also opportunities in Europe to stay in a decommissioned plane, as reported by “aerotelegraph.” This includes an old Sud Aviation SE-210 Caravelle VI-N, a so-called twinjet. It first took off in 1968 and is now located in Moyenpal in the French Vosges. Before its time as a hotel, the aircraft was, among other things, a karaoke bar. There’s also an airline hotel in Amsterdam, which is another old, decommissioned Boeing 747.
