Even though Bremen is the smallest federal state in Germany, the city should not be underestimated during the Advent season. True Christmas fans will find plenty to enjoy here, as will those simply looking for a bit of pre-Christmas atmosphere. The TRAVELBOOK editorial team has gathered information and compiled a selection of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Bremen.
Narrow alleys, half-timbered houses, and, of course, the Bremen Town Musicians: The Hanseatic and port city of Bremen is primarily known for its cultural and historical features. However, the city is equally worth seeing during the Christmas season. On your next visit, you should not miss these Christmas markets.
Overview
The 4 Most Beautiful Christmas Markets in Bremen
Schlachte-Zauber
The Schlachte-Zauber may seem rustic at first glance with its maritime setting, but it is also beautifully authentic. Located directly on the Weser promenade, torches and fire pits glow in blue light, creating a unique atmosphere. The surrounding ships on the Weser are also festively decorated with strings of lights and Christmas ornaments.
Compared to traditional Christmas markets, the Bremen Schlachte-Zauber is decidedly down-to-earth. In about 100 medieval wooden huts, you can find food and drinks such as mead, mulled wine, and grilled items, as well as ceramics, jewelry, and various gifts. The Pirate Village offers a historical experience: blacksmiths and merchants showcase their crafts and provide insight into their work. Additionally, jugglers, musicians, and small open-air groups perform. It’s ideal for those who prefer a more grounded and less kitschy experience.

Bremer Christmas Market
A true classic among Christmas markets is the Bremer Christmas Market around the historic marketplace. It extends from there over the Domshof, Obernstraße, and into the surrounding alleys, where about 170 lavishly decorated booths with fir branches and strings of lights stand, appearing especially festive at dusk. Those seeking a traditional Christmas market experience with punch, colorful lights, and abundant decorations will feel right at home here.
In addition to a twelve-meter-high Christmas tree, there are nostalgic carousels and numerous small and large candy and craft stands. A view over the entire marketplace is particularly impressive: The Christmas market is set in one of the most beautiful historical settings in northern Germany. The facade of the Bremen Town Hall, the Bremen Roland, and the St. Peter’s Cathedral are beautifully illuminated during this time, instantly creating a Christmas atmosphere.

Findorffer Winter Village
A popular meeting place during the Christmas season is also the Findorffer Winter Village. It is not a traditional Christmas market as one might know, but rather a pre-Christmas gathering place. The huts are simply designed and visually resemble small market stalls. Overall, it is much quieter here: no Christmas music, less hustle and bustle, but plenty of drink and snack stands, small buildings to explore, and numerous seating and standing areas.
Local vendors also offer decorative items and handicrafts, and this year, a special Winter Village vintner’s mulled wine is also sold. The Winter Village is particularly popular after work, when a diverse crowd gathers for a communal drink. Additionally, it is exceptionally long-lasting, starting in mid-November and remaining open until the end of January.

Lights of Neustadt
A colorful mix of art, culture, and winter magic can be found at the Lights of Neustadt. The unconventional, deliberately non-commercial market is now in its tenth year and focuses on culture and creativity. Instead of traditional Christmas booths, the organizers feature local artists, sustainable products, and constantly changing exhibitors.
Amidst strings of lights and mulled wine, the love for detail is evident: handcrafted stands showcase ceramic goods, various design items, and handmade gift ideas—including unique pieces. The market is complemented by a program of street art, smaller theater formats, and workshops.
