Rugged coasts and beautiful beaches in a place full of history—Cyprus is the perfect destination for a beach vacation. With more than 300 sunny days a year, the island holds the European record. On the third-largest island in the Mediterranean, it’s summer all year round. TRAVELBOOK shows which beaches in Cyprus are the most beautiful and reveals a hidden gem.
Located southwest of the Turkish Riviera, Cyprus has been a divided island since 1974: The south is an independent republic with Greek as the official language, while the north is claimed by Turkey. According to Greek mythology, the goddess Aphrodite was born from the sea foam on Cyprus. Which beach this happened on is unclear today. However, it is known which beaches in Cyprus are must-sees. TRAVELBOOK presents six of these beaches and reveals a hidden gem among the most beautiful spots on the coast.
Overview
1. Lara Beach – in Akamas National Park

In the northwest of Cyprus lies the Akamas Peninsula. There, in the national park of the same name, is the island’s only mountainous region. The park and peninsula were named after the son of Theseus. According to Greek mythology, Adonis first met Aphrodite here and immediately fell for her. Legend has it that a sip of water from the bay makes one fall eternally in love with the next person they see. So, choosing your companion to one of Cyprus’s most beautiful beaches should be done wisely. Lara Beach is located in the nature reserve and is not easy to reach. Your vehicle should be off-road capable, as the roads are unpaved. Once you arrive at the bay, the adventurous journey is well worth it. The natural beach is also a popular spot for female turtles, who come to Lara Beach every year during the breeding season to lay their eggs.
Our tip: The aforementioned bay of Adonis and Aphrodite is a bit away from Lara Beach and is located at the tip of the Akamas Peninsula. It is called Fontana Amorosa and is a great destination not only because of its history. Most of the time, the beach is deserted, making it a true hidden gem. Why this is so remains a mystery, as this place is truly beautiful!
2. Konnos Beach – in Paralimni

On the other side of the island, in the far southeast, is Konnos Beach. The beach offers almost everything your heart desires, with crystal-clear water and soft sand. However, for those who rely on accessibility, this beach may not be ideal, as it is only accessible via a small staircase. Besides lifeguards, there are toilets, showers, and changing rooms, making the beach suitable for families with children. It’s also a great spot for those who enjoy long swims and seek a beach away from mass tourism. The beach slopes gently, making it less suitable for snorkeling. However, umbrellas and beach chairs can be rented for a small fee. In the afternoon, most are already taken, so arriving early is worthwhile. Nearby, a small beach restaurant with good food and a sea view is run under the shade of pine trees.
Our tip: At Konnos Beach, you have the chance to book a boat tour or try flyboarding. In the latter, the board is attached to a jet ski with a hose that supplies the board with water pressure, allowing you to fly up to 20 meters above the water. An unforgettable experience!
3. Love Bridge – in Ayia Napa

This beautiful place—typical of Cyprus—has several names. Agia Napa or Ayia Napa is also called Αγία Νάπα in Greek and Aya Napa in Turkish. Located on the southeast coast in the Famagusta district, the coastal town is home to nearly 5,000 people. The number of those who vacation here annually is likely much higher. One of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus is partly responsible. The Love Bridge is one of the most popular tourist spots on the Mediterranean island. The bridge-like rock formation is not only an excellent photo opportunity but also a diving board into the cool water. Many people use the Love Bridge for this purpose, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere. The view is magnificent, and many come here in the evening to enjoy a cold drink while watching the sunset.
Our tip: Just above the sandy bay is the Ayia Napa Sculpture Park. It was founded in 2014 to create an open space where art and nature harmoniously coexist. Artists from around the world were invited to create their works on-site. As a result, the park continues to grow, and today you can view hundreds of sculptures in the open air. The setting is truly unique and absolutely free!
4. Nissi Beach – in Ayia Napa

The popular travel guide “Lonely Planet” annually ranks the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Nissi Beach, also located in the popular resort town of Ayia Napa, makes it into the top 20 of this list! It’s no wonder it is also among our favorites of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus. After all, it stretches over 500 meters, the water is crystal clear, and the sand is dazzlingly bright. You might almost think you’re in the Caribbean. This has, of course, become well-known in recent years, and Nissi Beach is always very busy. Fortunately, there are so many sun loungers available for a small fee that no one misses out. The waves at Nissi Beach are rather strong, making the bay less suitable for snorkeling. The former fishing village of Ayia Napa is known for its vibrant nightlife and is therefore especially popular with young people. Often, the party starts during the day at Nissi Beach and then moves to the city’s party strip in the evening.
Our tip: If you’re traveling to Cyprus to party, you should visit Nissi Beach during the day, then move on to the bars and later to the clubs, as the bars close here around 2 a.m.

5. Fig Tree Bay – in Protaras

In the eastern region of Cyprus is a quieter beach. Fig Tree Bay got its name from the fig trees that once lined the shore. The popular beach is located on the outskirts of Protaras and is therefore easily accessible. There are plenty of parking spaces available, and once you arrive at the beach, you’ll find everything you need for a perfect beach day. The long, wide sandy beach is used and appreciated by locals and tourists alike. The coast is lined with rocks, allowing you to observe many colorful fish while snorkeling. Unlike Nissi Beach, the waves here are gentler, and the water is absolutely clear and very clean. For a small fee, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, and several beach bars can feed your hunger. Fig Tree Bay scores with the complete package and is not only one of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus for us. The sanitary facilities, including free beach showers, are also highly appreciated.
Our tip: Sun loungers are limited at this beach. If you want to snag one, you should arrive early. On the other hand, there are far worse things than lying on a towel in the soft sand at this beach.
6. Liopetri Beach – Our Hidden Gem

Away from the bustling beaches of Ayia Napa lies our hidden gem among Cyprus’s beaches. Near the village of Liopetri, on a beautiful stretch of coastline, you’ll find peace and relaxation. If you’ve had enough of the island’s hotspots, this is the place for you! Liopetri Beach is not only secluded but also incredibly expansive. It almost feels like you’ve been stranded here. The best way to enjoy a long beach day is with a good book, as you won’t find much entertainment here. Other amenities are also absent, as they would only ruin the atmosphere. However, this is an important aspect for planning, as you must provide your own provisions. The nearby village is as quiet as this beach and is worth a visit for that reason alone!
Our tip: In Liopetri, there is a charming church from the 16th century worth seeing. Additionally, a river flows through the village, with charming restaurants along its banks. Here, you can enjoy freshly caught fish, which tastes particularly good at the “Potamos” restaurant.
