“Twelve people have been there, seven billion want to go.” With this slogan, the Canadian company Moon World Resorts promotes its moon-shaped planned resorts. The walkable and experienceable moon would be 224 meters high–when and where “the first moon on Earth” will be built is still up in the air. However, its appearance is not: TRAVELBOOK spoke with Michael R. Henderson, one of the two Canadian founders, and already knows the details.
A trip to the moon for everyone? The Moon World Resort could become the new highlight in Dubai, Las Vegas, China, or Spain. However, it is still unclear which city will win the race for the first moon resort and when it will open. Michael R. Henderson, however, considers an opening around 2027 possible if groundbreaking occurs in 2023.
In the resort, which is expected to cost about five billion U.S. dollars, guests will be able to be transported to the “moon colony” via a “moon shuttle”–they can then explore the moon-like surface with “moon buggies.”
The Moon on Earth
While Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Richard Branson are engaged in a space tourism race aiming ever higher, Michael R. Henderson and Sandra Matthews are approaching the universe from the opposite direction with their “Moon World Resort vision”: “We want to make space tourism accessible to everyone: The Moon World Resorts offer a dynamic and authentic experience on Earth, not just for a few.” However, Michael R. Henderson emphasizes to TRAVELBOOK: “The Moon World Resort is not an amusement park. It is a sophisticated, luxurious, and unique resort.”

The Concept
A Moon World Resort is planned to rise 224 meters into the air. The construction time is estimated at about five years, with costs amounting to a hefty five billion U.S. dollars. The moon on Earth is to be built mainly with steel, concrete, glass, aluminum, and carbon fiber composites. Four thousand hotel rooms will be available–in addition, a spa, casino, crater café, nightclub, theater, event center, beach club, and conference center are planned. Further plans include a piano bar, numerous boutiques, lounges, and sports facilities.
The “Moon Colony” as a Highlight
The highlight of the Moon World Resorts is to be the “moon colony”: A four-hectare area modeled after the moon’s surface. Visitors can reach it via a “moon shuttle” and explore the area with “moon buggies.” However, they will have to pay 500 U.S. dollars for this experience.

Whether and when the first “moon on Earth” will be built remains to be seen. Although the founders say there are already investors, the construction of an “earthly moon” has not yet received the green light.
