Then this award might be of personal interest to you: The travel portal hundehotel.info has identified the most dog-friendly accommodations in Europe for the seventh time, including this year. During the award ceremony, it honored 50 establishments with the accolade. This resulted in a ranking of the 50 best hotels and other accommodations for vacationers and their four-legged companions. How the Ranking of Europe’s Most Dog-Friendly Accommodations Was Created

The winners were determined based on four factors: Up to 60 points were awarded for dog-specific amenities and services, which were rated the highest. Guest reviews on hundehotel.info and other review platforms could earn a maximum of 25 points each. There were also up to 25 points for the so-called “No-Fake Factor.” According to hundehotel.info, this factor includes “evaluation criteria that are completely beyond the operator’s influence.” In this category, “poor reviews are related to the number of rooms in the accommodation.” The fewer poor reviews per room, the better the result.

Of the resulting top 50, 19 accommodations are from Germany. Half of Europe’s most dog-friendly accommodations are found in neighboring Austria, with 25, five in South Tyrol in Italy, and one in Switzerland. Why the top 50 are so clearly positioned in just one corner of Europe is not explained.

Europe’s Most Dog-Friendly Hotel Is in Austria

The most dog-friendly accommodation in 2026 is the Almfrieden Hotel & Romantikchalet in Ramsau am Dachstein in Styria, Austria. Last year, it was in third place. In 2026, it fully convinced and secured the victory.

The hotel has been around since 1926, and dogs are treated like royalty here. For the four-legged guests, there are dog biscuits and homemade dog menus, as well as numerous facilities for dogs. These include an outdoor sauna with its own dog area, a dog pool, an agility play park, and workshops. The hotel even offers Reiki treatments for dogs and a dog spa. A new feature is an alpine indoor dog training room, allowing use in any weather.

Second Place Goes to Germany

In second place among Europe’s most dog-friendly hotels in 2026 is last year’s winner: the Hunderesort Waldeck in Philippsreut, Bavaria. It is thus the most dog-friendly hotel in Germany in 2026. The family-run business has been around since 1978 and has been continuously expanded and modernized. Recently, the wellness area with an infinity pool, sauna landscape, and relaxation rooms was expanded. For dogs, a daily changing program is offered, as well as various dog workshops, a fenced area, a bathing pond, and a dog hall.
