Millions of people travel around the world each year to see famous landmarks and natural wonders with their own eyes. While many visitors are thrilled by the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, or the Eiffel Tower, others leave surprisingly mocking reviews online that question the fame of these tourist hotspots.
Not Impressed by Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, located on the border between the U.S. and Canada, is one of the world’s most famous natural attractions. Massive volumes of water plunge down every hour. Yet, this spectacle doesn’t impress every visitor.
A Google user wrote: “Worst tourist trap ever, complete waste of time.” Another visitor remarked: “Just water falling, nothing special.” This comment was also unflattering: “Great falling water. As if I don’t see that every morning in the shower.”
Grand Canyon: Tourists Criticize Natural Wonder
The Grand Canyon in Arizona is among the most spectacular landscapes in the U.S. The gorge is nearly 1,500 meters deep and showcases rock layers formed over millions of years.
Still, not every tourist was impressed. One visitor described the natural monument on Google as “a big old hole in the ground.” Another wrote that it was “just colored mountains in a crater.” Particularly unusual was the criticism from a tourist who complained about the lack of infrastructure. There was “nothing” there–neither fast-food chains nor a shopping mall.
Eiffel Tower Compared to Cell and Power Towers
Since its opening in 1889, the Eiffel Tower has shaped the skyline of Paris and is considered a symbol of the French capital. Around 20,000 people visit the structure daily.
But there are also critical voices here. On Reddit, a tourist described the tower as a “glorified cell tower.” In their view, the structure was neither particularly beautiful nor an architectural masterpiece. Another visitor compared it to a power tower.

Strictly speaking, Big Ben is the large bell in the Elizabeth Tower at the Palace of Westminster. However, the term is often used to refer to the entire tower in common parlance.
For one Google user, the famous landmark was not very spectacular. Their conclusion was: “Just a big clock. Was there, saw it.” From their perspective, with a cellphone, there was no special reason to visit the tower. Another visitor also noted that the structure appeared more attractive in photos than in reality.
Even Cowbells Become a Point of Contention
Not only world-famous landmarks face critical comments. The mountainous region of Northern Italy was not spared either.
In Serina in the Brembana Valley, a vacationer complained in a social media post about the cowbells in her vicinity. They could be heard “day and night” and were less than ten meters from her apartment block. As a result, she found it “impossible” to enjoy her vacation. The noise was a “nuisance.”
Serina’s mayor, Michele Villarboito, showed no understanding for the criticism. The cows, he maintained, are an important part of the region’s history and culture.
