The magazine “Time Out” has named the most beautiful bike paths in the world. From spectacular routes to pleasant leisurely rides, everything is included, as well as almost all continents. TRAVELBOOK reveals which ten cycling routes made the list–and presents the top three.
In times when sustainability and slow travel are gaining more popularity, it’s hardly unusual to undertake entire trips by bicycle. But where is cycling not just a means to get from A to B, but the goal itself? For example, on the following ten bike paths, which the magazine “Time Out” recently named the most beautiful in the world.
Overview
The most beautiful bike path in the world is in France

The most beautiful of all global bike paths, according to “Time Out,” is in neighboring France, specifically in the Loire Valley. There, the approximately 560-mile route stretches from Nevers to the Atlantic, from the center of France to its west. Around the westernmost section of the EuroVelo 6 bike path, there are numerous facilities for cyclists, such as bike-friendly hotels and a train specifically designed for cyclists, according to the online magazine. The magazine advises planning one to two weeks for the entire route with all its charming castles, vineyards, and rivers. The best travel time: April to October.

Second place of the world’s most beautiful bike paths runs through eight countries
An even longer route, which runs through a total of eight countries, is the Trans-Dinarica Trail in the Western Balkans. The 3,400-mile route goes from Slovenia to Kosovo and back again. The second most beautiful bike path passes through Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Those who don’t have the time or inclination for this long bike tour can choose one or more sections, divided into different difficulty levels. In addition to breathtaking views, national parks, and remote villages, “Time Out” promises one thing above all for this bike path: tranquility. According to the magazine, you are likely to encounter very few other people on the route, making it a dreamlike contrast to overcrowded vacation spots from May to September.

The third bike path on the list is in Morocco and stretches over 520 miles, including numerous curves. Morocco’s caravan route runs from Imilchil to Tangier, or from the Sahara past the Atlas Mountains to the northern coast, as “Time Out” explains. The magazine estimates about two weeks for the route. It recommends traveling from south to north rather than the reverse and promises a true “bikepacking adventure” along exciting destinations like Chefchaouen, Fes, as well as untouched landscapes and nomadic villages. You can cycle here year-round, but if you plan to ride during Ramadan, you should expect many closed shops and correspondingly limited supplies.
