On September 16, the new season of “Das Sommerhaus der Stars – Kampf der Promipaare” (The Summer House of the Stars – Battle of the Celebrity Couples) will premiere on RTL’s free TV program. The filming location is once again a seemingly shabby farm in Bocholt with a pronounced ick factor. However, beyond the filming, it appears to be quite a pleasant place to stay. After all, the house, which is available for rent on various booking platforms, is constantly booked out.
This is now the 10th season of the popular RTL show “Das Sommerhaus der Stars – Kampf der Promipaare.” Die-hard fans might remember the old filming location: Before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, it was a farm in Portugal. Since 2020, contestants haven’t had to travel as far to their temporary new home, only needing to go to Bocholt in North Rhine-Westphalia. And every year, they get quite a shock upon arrival!
Filming Location Made as Creepy as Possible
Anyone moving into “The Summer House of the Stars” knows: A wellness retreat is not in store. This is partly due to the sometimes exhausting challenges in which the celebrity couples must compete against each other, and often due to the protagonists themselves. RTL values drama—you can be sure of a high potential for catfights and drama among the housemates.
The filming location itself is also meant to contribute to the uncomfortable atmosphere. The set is designed accordingly: In “The Summer House of the Stars,” stuffed animals hang on the walls, dusty dolls with staring eyes are set up as decor, and dead insects can be found everywhere. This is likely intended to evoke schadenfreude in the average viewer, who surely thinks, “Thank goodness I’m not there.” Yet, they could be.
You Can Rent the Farm in Bocholt
It should be noted: As grimy as the filming location appears on TV, it is not in reality. TRAVELBOOK found the farmhouse on booking platforms such as Booking.com, Fewo-direkt.de, and Airbnb. The pictures show a very well-kept and cozy property that bears little resemblance to “The Summer House of the Stars.” And the reviews support this impression. For instance, a recent review on Booking.com describes a cozy country house in a beautiful, quiet location “with great water buffalo in the pasture.”
A room is currently available there from around 130 euros and upward per night. However, during the travel season, interested parties need to be somewhat flexible. The farmhouse is quite popular with vacationers. Often, only a few rooms are available, so you should expect to share the kitchen and common areas with other guests. Plus, not all rooms have windows.

TRAVELBOOK Spoke with the “Summer House” Owner
In 2020, TRAVELBOOK spoke with the owner of the farm, Friedrich Rump. He confirmed that the production company rented the house from him as a filming location for “The Summer House of the Stars.” Indeed, quite a few changes were made to the furnishings and the property for the approximately two-month-long filming. “I had to move most of my furniture to make room for the bunk beds,” Rump told TRAVELBOOK at the time. “I also had to vacate my private area and move to another accommodation.”
Normally, Rump does not move out. The guests don’t seem to mind. On the contrary, the reportedly nice landlord “enhances the stay with much dedication and numerous anecdotes.”

Filming Location is a Renovated House from 1906
The farmhouse was built in 1906 and completely renovated in 1975. Among the amenities denied to the summer house celebrities are, in addition to the company of Mr. Rump, an open fireplace with a cozy sitting area, large double beds, as well as Wi-Fi and satellite TV.
What is normally not there, however, is the pool in the garden. It is set up by the production company. Also not part of the regular inventory: the many dolls, stuffed animals, and other knick-knacks. All of this is just props to give the filming location, namely “The Summer House of the Stars,” a dusty and slightly creepy touch.

These Stars Are in Season 8
