Those seeking the perfect vacation photo often go to great lengths. Many climb cliffs, block paths, or ask strangers for help. A holiday destination in Mallorca now wants to change that and is introducing a “selfie route.” TRAVELBOOK reveals what’s behind it.

Magaluf, located in the municipality of Calvià, has been a popular destination for partygoers for years. However, many visitors might soon return home with similar photos. The reason: Along the new “selfie route,” fixed stations have been installed that are designed for specific perspectives and allow for independent shots.

The idea is simple. Tourists should no longer rely on others for souvenir photos but can use prepared spots instead.

Funding and Goals of the Project

The project was initiated by the municipality of Calvià. According to “Euronews,” it is funded by the tourist tax and additionally supported by the Balearic government. The municipality is pursuing several goals with this. On one hand, visitor behavior in public spaces should become more considerate.

On the other hand, they hope that tourists will share their photos on social networks, generating additional attention for the location. The measure is also part of a strategy for Magaluf to diversify and become less dependent on pure party tourism in the long term.

Four Stations Along the Passeig Calvià

Currently, the route includes four stations along the Passeig Calvià, such as at the Cas Saboners estate and the Magaluf promenade. The locations are chosen to create different motifs, such as views of the sea, buildings, or notable points in the surroundings. A map is intended to help find all the stations specifically.

Technology: Smartphone Holders and Digital Content

At each spot, black holders are installed where smartphones can be placed. This allows photos to be taken without outside help. Additionally, visitors can scan QR codes via an app to access additional information, images, and audio guides in multiple languages.

An expansion is already planned. Three more stations are to be added on the grounds of the Torre de Torrenova in the future.
