… Cala Mesquida! In the ranking of the best beaches in Europe, the bay with its turquoise waters ranks sixth. This makes it not only the highest-ranked beach in Mallorca but also in all of Spain.
The approximately 250-meter-long Cala Mesquida in the northeast of the island is one of the most famous natural beaches in Mallorca, with its fine sandy beach, turquoise waters, and shallow sandbanks. Surrounded by dunes and green hills, the bay appears relatively untouched despite its popularity.
The cove is located near the municipality of Capdepera and about a ten-minute drive from the popular resort of Cala Ratjada. Behind the beach, the sandy areas transition into pine groves and unspoiled coastal landscapes. The bay is also well-equipped for visitors with restaurants, sunbed rentals, and lifeguards, making it a popular destination for families.
In online reviews, it is mentioned that the beach can be busy during the summer months and the sea can become rougher with stronger winds. According to “European Best Destinations,” a visit to the beach restaurants is also worthwhile, offering “Pa amb Oli”–toasted bread with tomato and olive oil, a classic of Mallorcan cuisine.

The Top 10 Best Beaches in Europe
While the Spanish Cala Mesquida ranks sixth overall, Praia de Monte Clérigo on the west coast of Portugal’s Algarve tops the list. The beach is especially known for its golden cliffs and expansive coastal landscape. Greece is also strongly represented, with five beaches making it into the top ten. The best-ranked is Voutoumi Beach on the island of Andipaxos, known for its crystal-clear waters and accessible only by boat.
