No Purchases from Illegal Beach Vendors
At many beaches, itinerant vendors offer goods like jewelry, sunglasses, beach towels, drinks, or fruit. According to “Mallorca Magazin,” buying such products is problematic because many sellers operate without permits. There are also hygiene risks, especially with drinks and food. In Palma, not only the vendors but also their customers are penalized. Depending on the violation, fines can range from 100 to 750 euros.
Public Urination Can Be Costly
Relieving oneself outside of public restrooms is prohibited in Mallorca. Those who do not use sanitary facilities and instead urinate in public face hefty fines. Fines can reach up to 1,500 euros and are even higher if the violation occurs in a nature reserve or directly on a beach, as reported by Holidaycheck. Therefore, it is advisable to always use the nearest public toilet when needed.
Avoid Alcohol Binges and Loud Music
A single drink on the beach is usually not a problem. However, larger drinking parties with significant alcohol consumption and loud music are prohibited in many coastal areas. Authorities, particularly in Palma and Cala Ratjada, are cracking down on such gatherings, according to “Mallorca Magazin.” Violations can result in fines of up to 1,500 euros per person.
Bring Dogs Only to Designated Areas
During the peak season, dogs are not allowed on most beaches in Mallorca. However, there are a few designated dog beaches, such as in Cala Gamba, Es Carnatge, or Port de Pollença. If you bring your dog, be sure to clean up after them, as failing to do so can result in fines of up to 300 euros.
Observe Smoking Bans
More and more beaches in Mallorca are being declared smoke-free zones. The city of Palma has recently increased the number of such beaches. Visitors should pay attention to signage that informs them of the applicable rules. According to the “Mallorca Zeitung,” most smoke-free beaches are located in the municipalities of Manacor, Felanitx, Pollença, Calvià, Palma, and Artà. The well-known Playa de Muro is also smoke-free. Legally, however, it is not a ban but a recommendation, and so far, no penalties have been imposed on beachgoers who smoke despite the ban.
Do Not Collect Protected Natural Materials
Taking shells, feathers, or other remnants of protected animal species from the beaches is prohibited in Mallorca. This includes the shells of certain sea snails or feathers of endangered bird species like the Mallorcan monk vulture. Those who carry such souvenirs when leaving the island can face fines ranging from 500 to 3,000 euros.

Leave Sand and Stones Alone
In nature reserves, removing sand, stones, or shells is strictly prohibited. Even outside protected areas, experts advise against taking natural materials as souvenirs. Even small amounts can contribute to the long-term damage of sensitive coastal ecosystems.
Caution When Skinny Dipping
There is no general ban on nudism in the Balearic Islands. However, according to “Mallorca Magazin,” regulations vary by municipality. While skinny dipping is accepted at traditional nudist beaches like Es Trenc, El Mago, or Cala Mesquida, local ordinances in heavily visited or urban areas may impose fines. Therefore, it is advisable to check local regulations in advance.
