Even the walk to the northern tip of the peninsula is an experience. Plan for about 20 minutes, as there are many beautiful spots where you’ll definitely want to stop and take photos. The starting point is the impressive Scaliger Castle at the entrance to the old town. From here, follow a picturesque path along the lakeshore, accompanied by the gentle lapping of the water.

Caribbean Flair in the Middle of Lake Garda

Passing small bays, wide views of Lake Garda open up repeatedly. Soon you reach the “Grotte di Catullo,” the ruins of a Roman villa amidst sprawling olive groves. In the shade of the trees, past ancient remnants, the path winds further until the panorama opens again, and Jamaica Beach lies at the foot of the grotto.

It’s quite possible you’ll be left in awe, squinting your eyes briefly. Not because you can’t tell if it’s a dream or reality, but because the sunlight reflects just as intensely on the water as it does on a tropical beach. Instead of white sand, visitors will find flat limestone rocks here. It’s this extraordinary mix of Mediterranean nature, history, and exoticism that makes the place so special.

The approximately 150-meter-long beach is freely accessible, and some visitors spread their towels directly on the warm stones. Others prefer the slightly higher spots with loungers and umbrellas. No matter where you choose to sit, the vacation feeling sets in immediately. Especially in the front row, you can wonderfully relax, as the view of the green-blue shimmering water with its Caribbean flair is guaranteed.

Swimming Among Limestone Rocks and Olive Groves

Swimming itself is a little adventure. First, you wade a good distance into the water, as it is very shallow–perfect for small children and for slowly cooling off. Since the rocks underwater are a bit slippery, caution is advised. But the slowness draws your attention to the fascinating underwater world: In the crystal-clear water, you can see every stone and every little fish on the bottom. Once the water is deep enough, you feel almost like you’re in a lagoon. Looking toward the horizon, you let yourself drift and enjoy this feeling of freedom and lightness. The thought quickly arises: Why fly to the Caribbean? Happiness is sometimes closer than you think.

After swimming, you can return to your lounger–or head straight to the beach bar. A cool drink is refreshing, even if the prices are a bit higher. But after all, you’re on vacation. While sparrows land on the loungers to grab a few crumbs from a snack, the quiet chatter of other guests and the gentle beats from the beach bar invite you to doze off. Relaxed chilling in a laid-back atmosphere is simply part of the experience here.

Many guests rave about the “lounge vibes” at this beach. Indeed, Jamaica Beach, despite the summer crowds, is not a party beach but rather a place to unwind. From the upper level, you can relax and look down at the swimmers and sunbathers lying with closed eyes on the warm stone slabs, enjoying the natural beauty of the surroundings.

• A mat is handy for those who want to lie on the rocks 
• Changing rooms and showers are available on-site 
• There are accommodations nearby–hotels with lake views or apartments
• At the harbor, you can find small water taxis or motorboats for rent to get to the beach
