Deutsche Bahn is offering a temporary ICE flat rate: the so-called “44-Hour Ticket Young”. TRAVELBOOK has reviewed the conditions of the 44-euro ticket and explains who benefits from it and when it is valid.
An ICE flat rate, meaning as many rides on one of Deutsche Bahn’s high-speed trains as you want, sounds really good. The price of 44 euros is also appealing and is not diminished by the fact that the rides must take place within 44 hours. However, you should not rush to book a ticket just yet. The “44-Hour Ticket Young” from Deutsche Bahn comes with a few conditions.
Who Can Use the 44-Euro Ticket?
First of all, your age is crucial for purchasing Deutsche Bahn’s ICE flat rate. The current offer is only for travelers under 27 years old. It does not apply to anyone else. “The age on the first day of travel is decisive,” according to Deutsche Bahn. Age will be checked on the train. Children under six years can travel for free with the 44-hour ticket, but everyone over six needs their own ticket.
When and Where Is the Offer Valid?
Deutsche Bahn’s promotion is limited to trips in February and March. Additionally, the 44-euro ticket is a weekend ticket and is only valid for trips between Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. During this time, travelers can take as many trains as they want.
Possible travel dates are February 6 to 8, February 13 to 15, February 20 to 22, February 27 to March 1, March 6 to 8, March 13 to 15, and March 20 to 22. The last weekend in March is not part of the promotion period.
The offer is valid for second class on all Deutsche Bahn high-speed trains, specifically in all train categories ICE, IC, EC, RJ, RJX, TGV, and ECE.

The “44-Hour Ticket Young” is available in the app and on the Deutsche Bahn website as well as directly at the station. Tickets can be booked until March 19, 2026, and up to the Thursday before the desired weekend. According to Deutsche Bahn, the offer is available “while supplies last.” A DB spokesperson told TRAVELBOOK: “There is no fixed quota of tickets.” A similar offer last July was used by 55,000 young travelers, according to Deutsche Bahn.
The trains themselves do not need to be booked, according to Deutsche Bahn; instead, holders of the ICE flat rate can simply board flexibly wherever they want. Given the expected full trains during the promotion period, travelers should consider whether they want to reserve a seat for an additional fee. This is also confirmed by the DB spokesperson to TRAVELBOOK: “On heavily demanded routes and at popular travel times (e.g., Friday afternoon), we recommend reserving a seat in advance.”
Can the Ticket Be Canceled?
According to Deutsche Bahn, the “44-Hour Ticket Young” is excluded from exchange and cancellation. However, there is a loophole for those who change their mind immediately after purchase: immediate cancellation. According to DB, tickets booked on bahn.de or in the DB Navigator can be “canceled free of charge within 3 hours (180 minutes) after booking.” In this case, you will receive a full refund.
