“Come on, let’s go to the Baltic Sea!” – but where to exactly? Maybe not to Binz on Rügen or Heringsdorf on Usedom, but to Swinemünde in Poland. The place, called Świnoujście in Polish, is partly located on the popular German Baltic Sea island of Usedom, but here vacationers can experience the coast from a completely different perspective.

The Baltic resort of Swinemünde is no longer a hidden gem, but it still lags behind its German counterparts like Heringsdorf or Ahlbeck on Usedom. However, with the right travel tips in hand, you can discover entirely new aspects of the Baltic coast here. After all, Swinemünde is the only Polish city located on multiple islands.

But only three of 44 are inhabited, namely Usedom, where the old town center of the city is located, Wollin, and Kaseburg. It’s not just the comparatively lower prices for accommodations and beach chairs that attract tourists. From the picturesque Mühlenbake, which makes the perfect Instagram shot, to a cross-border bike tour and enjoying mussels on the beach promenade, this historic Baltic resort has a lot to offer!

Prefer to listen to the Baltic Sea travel tips for Swinemünde rather than read them? Then we recommend the corresponding episode to the article from “In 5 Minuten um die Welt – the daily travel podcast from TRAVELBOOK.”

Where to Find the Best Restaurants in Swinemünde?

Fortunately, Swinemünde doesn’t lack great dining options. Without a sea view but authentically Polish, the restaurant Kurna Chata near the spa park is a must-visit. In the historic old town, you’ll find excellent cafes like El Papa – Café Hemingway.

Baltic Travel Tips for Swinemünde: Dos and Don’ts

  • Do’s: Take an extended walk through the old spa district. Impressive city villas testify to the splendor and glory of the early 20th century. Back then, Swinemünde was still part of the German Empire, and that’s evident in its architecture.
  • Don’ts: Even though Swinemünde’s harbor is one of the most important, it’s not a place where you’d want to linger. It’s always quite loud, and like many harbor areas, it can feel a bit eerie in the evening. Therefore, it’s not one of the recommended travel tips for Swinemünde on the Baltic Sea.

Baltic Sea Travel Tips Swinemünde: Dos and Don’ts

For me, Swinemünde is the perfect destination to relax on the beach. I personally find the beach sections here even more beautiful than in Heringsdorf.

Additionally, the Baltic Sea feels a bit different here than in other places. It’s a unique experience that I highly recommend.
