Snow-covered mountains, crystal-clear lakes, charming villages, and picturesque landscapes: Switzerland has a lot to offer tourists. But it’s not just the country that impresses; it’s also the people. We wanted to know which canton is the most hospitable in Switzerland–and you voted! Graubünden receives the TRAVELBOOK Award 2026 as the “most hospitable canton in Switzerland.”
All 26 cantons of Switzerland were, of course, up for selection. However, a winner quickly emerged in the voting for this year’s TRAVELBOOK Award. With 13.39 percent of all votes cast in the category, Graubünden clearly outpaced the competition. Year after year, the canton attracts millions of visitors. Last year, according to the tourism site, Graubünden recorded more than 2.2 million guest arrivals. It wasn’t just the beautiful surroundings that drew them in, but certainly also the hospitality of the locals.
Graubünden Thrills with Famous Mountain Regions
Graubünden is located in the southeast of Switzerland and is the largest canton by area. It borders Liechtenstein, Italy, and Austria, and a large part of the Swiss Alps is located directly there. And if you haven’t heard much about Graubünden–you surely know St. Moritz, Davos, the Engadin, or Arosa. All these famous mountain regions are located there.
But it’s not just these places in a dreamlike setting that make Graubünden particularly popular; it’s also the people who live there and provide their guests with a very special stay every day. The people who share their personal insider tips for the region, are happy to help and support, and simply chat a bit about their beautiful homeland. They are the reason Graubünden was named the “most hospitable canton in Switzerland” and awarded the TRAVELBOOK Award 2026.
Methodology for the TRAVELBOOK Award
Again this year, we say: All nominated regions, countries, and the like for the TRAVELBOOK Awards are already winners. Even if they didn’t achieve overall victory. This also applies to all other cantons.
The TRAVELBOOK editorial team sought help from the community on Facebook and Instagram and consulted experts from the travel industry to create the shortlist. For the first time this year, not only TRAVELBOOK readers but also BILD readers voted. In total, more than 150,000 votes were cast to determine the trend travel destinations for 2027.
