A restaurant from Baden-Württemberg can now call itself the best restaurant in the world–alongside nine others. “LaListe” has published its current list of top restaurants. TRAVELBOOK presents the top 10 and the German winner restaurant.
The creators of the “LaListe” ranking have made it their mission to “celebrate and promote the world’s best culinary experiences through a data-driven global ranking (…).” They are doing so again this year with a list of the best restaurants worldwide, totaling 1,000. Among the ten restaurants sharing the top spot is a German restaurant.
Overview
The Ranking
The annual LaListe ranking is now in its tenth year. According to its own information, it is based on reviews from more than 1,100 expert sources, including gastronomic guides and reviews, as well as millions of online reviews. According to LaListe, “exceptional restaurants (…) from gourmet restaurants to bistros, trattorias, meyhanes, izakayas, and other authentic places where true taste and craftsmanship thrive” are evaluated.
For the ranking, the respective reviews are converted into a scale from 0 to 100, with the weighting depending on the importance, reach, reliability, and independence of the source, as stated on the website. Online reviews account for 10 percent of the final score, as LaListe aims to “create a balanced perspective between expert evaluation and public opinion.”

The German Winner
The German restaurant that made it onto the best list this year is the Schwarzwaldstube in Baiersbronn in the Black Forest. The three-star restaurant in the five-star hotel Traube-Tonbach creates, according to its own information, a “contemporary interpretation of French culinary classics” under head chef Torsten Michel. The Michelin Guide also describes the cuisine at Schwarzwaldstube as “modern-elegant (…) with regional references.”
This mix is also reflected in the menu of the Baden-Württemberg gourmet restaurant. It offers dishes like “Gillardeau oysters No. 1 with Kaviari Kristal caviar” alongside “cheese spaetzle with Comté Grande Garde, Gruyère française, and Beaufort” or “chocolate gingerbread soufflé with long pepper.” In addition to classic meat and fish dishes, Schwarzwaldstube also offers a vegetarian menu.
