The Italian portal 50 Top Pizza announced the best pizzerias in Europe at an awards ceremony in Madrid, and the results might surprise you.

The Best Pizza Restaurant Outside of Italy

Just like last year, the winner of the ranking for the best pizza in Europe is “Napoli on the Road” in London, a famous pizzeria in the west of the British metropolis. The restaurant’s success is no coincidence; the founder and head chef Michele Pascarella was already crowned the best pizza maker in the world according to “Timeout“–he himself is actually Italian.

In second place in the ranking of the best pizza in Europe is “Baldoria” in Madrid, closely followed by “Via Toledo” in Vienna and “Sartoria Panatieri” in Barcelona in third place. Surprisingly, Spain was the most frequently represented on the list with a total of eight entries. England, France, and Germany are each represented four times in the ranking. The best pizza in Germany can be found at “Pizza Zulu” in Fürth–it even secured 6th place in the international comparison.

Why Isn’t the Best Pizza in Europe Found in Italy?

But why is Italy itself not considered in the ranking? The home of pizza actually has its own category in the awards, with the winner to be announced on July 15 in Milan.
