Watching the colorful hustle and bustle of a Christmas market with a hot mulled wine in hand is a cherished part of the Advent season for many. Which market you prefer to visit depends on your individual preferences. The TRAVELBOOK editorial team has compiled four of their favorite Christmas markets in Brandenburg for you.

Each Christmas market has its own unique charm. While many focus on tradition and classic elements, there are also markets with numerous rides that almost resemble a fair. Depending on what you value—mulled wine and bratwurst with classic Christmas music or a wild Christmas party—there’s something for everyone. In our list, we present four Christmas markets in Brandenburg that we particularly like and are definitely worth a visit.

Spreewald Christmas in the Spreewald

Spreewald Christmas
This is unique in Germany: You take a barge right into the Spreewald to the Christmas market

The Spreewald Christmas is probably one of the most popular Christmas markets in Brandenburg. The special feature: You are brought to the Christmas market by a typical barge. Wrapped in warm wool blankets, you can make yourself comfortable with a hot drink during the barge ride. The journey starts at the Great Harbor of Lübbenau. The stalls at the Harbor Christmas offer smoked fish and other delicacies. Then it’s off by barge to the open-air museum in Lehde.

Once there, you can expect a crafts market, regional specialties, and many stories and traditions about Christmas. Finally, you return to the Great Spreewald Harbor by waterway.

Important to know: Tickets for the Spreewald Christmas with the barge ride are scarce. The presale started as early as September. According to the organizer’s website, there are occasionally new ticket allocations.

  • Opening hours: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
