Anyone who immediately thinks of roller coasters, loops, and adrenaline rushes when it comes to amusement parks will be surprised by Turisede. Located in the far east of Saxony, right on the German-Polish border, it is a world of experiences that resembles an enchanted fantasy land more than a traditional amusement park. Instead of fast rides, visitors will find treehouses, underground tunnels, suspension bridges, and mysterious stories.
“We are not a playground and not a classic amusement park. We are our own world. Everything we create comes from imagination, but it is also real and walkable,” says Eugen Valtin with pride about his “Secret World of Turisede” in an interview with TRAVELBOOK. Here, at one of the easternmost points of Germany, he and his wife have created an area over decades that now attracts visitors from many parts of the country.
The History of the Unusual Park
It all began during the GDR era on a farm with some fields and woods, where Valtin and his wife made wooden figures and toys for the regional markets. After the reunification, however, that was no longer enough to survive. “I realized: Small wooden products are either machine-made or cheaply imported,” says Valtin. “So I decided to build something that no one can import or mass-produce. We started creating large and crazy things out of wood.” Among other things, they built a playground commissioned by the city of Görlitz, which was very well received.
“Gradually, we were able to acquire more land,” Valtin reports. “When a former military airfield near us was dismantled, we bought the concrete elements of the old trenches for a symbolic price. With them, we reshaped the landscape and created underground passages and cave systems. Today, we have more than 500 meters of secret tunnels underground.”
The underground tunnels still exist in the “Secret World of Turisede” today, and they delight both children and adults alike. In addition, there are many other wooden attractions, various activities, and a large indoor adventure world where you can solve puzzles. And a treehouse hotel, which was the first of its kind in Germany at the time and is award-winning.
Where is the “Secret World of Turisede” Located?
The “Secret World of Turisede” is located in the municipality of Neißeaue near Görlitz in Saxony and is considered one of the easternmost amusement parks in Germany. The area even extends partially into Poland, where more adventure areas await visitors.
The park emerged from the former Kulturinsel Einsiedel. Today, the entire facility tells the fictional story of the long-lost people of the Turiseder and combines adventure, art, nature, and experimental archaeology into an extraordinary overall experience.
The Attractions: Climbing, Crawling, Discovering
Unlike in classic amusement parks, roller coasters are not the focus in Turisede. The park thrives on its imaginative wooden structures and its nature-oriented design. The biggest highlights include:

- Suspension bridges and winding adventure paths
- The fairytale-like magic castle
- Animal enclosures with animals from different parts of the world
- Water and play areas for children
- Treasure hunts and interactive “legend adventures” for the whole family.
The park sees itself as a giant adventure playground for all generations. Children can climb, crawl, and discover to their heart’s content, while adults are continually amazed by art objects, nature, and curious constructions.

Overnight Stays in Treehouses and Wellness
One day is not enough for many visitors. That’s why Turisede offers numerous extraordinary overnight accommodations. The treehouses, some of which are several meters above the ground and connected by walkways, are particularly popular. There are also underground accommodations, themed rooms, and other unusual sleeping places. In total, there are several hundred overnight places available. Families, in particular, like to make a short vacation out of it, as many attractions can only be fully discovered over multiple visits.
Among the special offerings is the wellness world. Visitors can relax in wood-fired hot tubs or use the treehouse sauna. After dark, illuminated wooden walkways and imaginative light installations create an almost fairytale-like atmosphere.
Many Events
Events, adventure programs, and cultural festivals are held regularly. The “Folklorum,” one of the largest folk festivals in Germany, is particularly well-known and attracts numerous visitors every year.
Turisede is not a park for adrenaline junkies, but for explorers. Those who enjoy climbing through treehouses, exploring secret tunnels, and immersing themselves in imaginative stories will find one of Germany’s most unusual leisure worlds here. Families, in particular, who want to experience something completely different from the usual amusement park classics should mark this adventure land in Upper Lusatia on their calendars.
