Thailand has long established itself as one of the most popular vacation destinations. No wonder, as the Asian country offers breathtaking nature and incredibly beautiful beaches. With such a large selection, making a decision can be difficult. To make the choice easier, TRAVELBOOK showcases seven of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches.

If you love beach vacations, Thailand is the place to be: The country offers over 3,000 kilometers of coastline with the most stunning beaches. The beaches of Thailand’s paradise islands are also not to be overlooked and are almost too beautiful to be true! TRAVELBOOK presents seven of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand that are particularly recommended.

1. Sunrise Beach – on Koh Lipe

This beach on Koh Lipe was long considered an insider tip among Thailand's beaches
This beach on Koh Lipe was long considered an insider tip among Thailand’s beaches

Boats gently rocking, crystal-clear water, and green palms–the island of Koh Lipe was long considered an insider tip. Although its good reputation precedes it now, it is by no means overcrowded. Sunrise Beach is particularly beautiful here, as it is somewhat secluded, allowing you to enjoy the vacation feeling in peace. Due to its location in southern Thailand, the waves are rather strong. However, this does not detract from snorkeling, and on clear days, you can see the neighboring country Malaysia! Our tip: Along the beach, there are several resorts and restaurants, many of which offer live music in the evenings. And, as the name suggests, the sunrises at this beach are truly special, making it one of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches for us.

2. Freedom Beach – on Phuket

Rugged cliffs, deep jungle, and in the midst of it all, a stunning beach–Freedom Beach is located near the city of Patong on Phuket. It feels like a treasure mainly because it is not easy to reach. If you still want to make the journey, you have three options and will be rewarded with an almost deserted paradise. Option one is renting a moped, which can cover most of the distance. From the last road, a steep path leads down the hill to the beach, which can only be traversed on foot. Another option is taking a taxi, as there are no parking spaces on site, and here too, the last stretch to the beach must be covered on foot via a steep staircase. Our tip: The last, best, and most stylish option is renting a boat in Patong.

3. Maya Bay – on Koh Phi Phi Leh

Maya Bay is one of Thailand's most popular beaches and is often closed during monsoon season

Majestic limestone cliffs, bright blue sky, and sparkling water–the scenery at Maya Bay is the dream come true for any beach vacation. The bay is located on the island of Koh Phi Phi Leh, one of the two main islands of the Phi Phi island group off Thailand’s west coast. Maya Bay is situated on the Andaman Sea and is not far from the popular tourist cities of Phuket and Krabi. It is also a small celebrity among Thailand’s most beautiful beaches, as it became famous through the film The Beach, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tilda Swinton. Since the beach has been frequently visited after its big appearance in this film, it has repeatedly faced closures to protect the local nature. Therefore, booking an online ticket in advance is now required.

4. Monkey Bay – on Koh Phayam

Monkey Bay is sparsely visited and thus still almost an insider tip

Dense jungle, an adventurous path, and at the end of the path, an absolute dream beach–Monkey Bay is well hidden in the far north of Koh Payam island. For adventurers, it’s an absolute dream. To reach the secluded bay, a small part of the jungle must be traversed first. Although Koh Payam island is mentioned in almost every Thailand travel guide, it is still a true insider tip. Hardly anyone ventures into this part of the country. One of the reasons there is no mass tourism here, and the island hosts a manageable number of restaurants and hotels. More common are small bungalow complexes. This makes a vacation on Koh Payam truly relaxing and brings genuine recovery. Our tip: The sunsets are best enjoyed with a cold drink at one of the cozy beach bars.

5. Farang Beach – on Koh Mook

Farang Beach on Koh Mook is often called Charlie Beach and is an insider tip for the most beautiful sunsets

Reddish-yellow sand and a breathtaking backdrop–Farang Beach is just a few boat minutes away from the famous Emerald Cave. Especially for sunset lovers, this beach is an interesting tip. Located in the southwest of Koh Mook, it boasts a proud length of about 800 meters and is exceptionally wide. Thus, it is perfect for a long beach day–and it should definitely be long here. To not miss the famous sunsets of this spot, the evening hours should not be skipped! Everyone seems to be waiting for them, and until then, people relax, play guitar, and read. This atmosphere makes Farang Beach one of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches for us. Our tip: At the end of Farang Beach, there is a beach bar serving the local Chang beer.

6. Sivalai Beach – on Koh Mook

Snow-white sand, green palms, and plenty of peace–if you’re looking for true relaxation, you’ll find it at Sivalai Beach. This small oasis is located on the island of Koh Mook. Adjacent to Sivalai Beach is a resort of the same name, leading many to believe the beach is not publicly accessible. Fortunately, this is not the case, as the beach is divided into private and public areas. Perhaps due to this misconception, you encounter so few people here despite the beach’s beauty. Our tip: The Emerald Cave is a nearby cave that can be explored by kayak at low tide. Inside the cave is an impressive lagoon. An adventure that should definitely be experienced!

7. Ao Mai Ngam Beach – a true insider tip

White, soft sand and a play of colors you can’t get enough of–Ao Mai Ngam Beach is located on the island of Koh Surin. And it’s a true insider tip. In the middle of Mu Ko Surin National Park, this small oasis seems almost unreal with its paradisiacal conditions. If you enjoy nature, diving, and snorkeling, you’ll find few better places than this. The water is crystal clear, and the gentle waves are so calm that wearing a diving mask is almost unnecessary. The underwater world can be impressively admired even while wading through the water. The lack of comforts like sanitary facilities is a trade-off we’re willing to make. After all, its untouched nature makes this beach one of Thailand’s most beautiful for us! Our tip: Since the water is so calm here, Ao Mai Ngam Beach is also perfect for stand-up paddling.
