Japan Gives Away Flights–Under These Conditions
Especially for long-distance trips, it’s a good idea to visit more than one place and travel within the country. But that can be expensive. Anyone planning a spontaneous trip to Japan should pay attention now. Together with the Japan Tourism Agency, All Nippon Airways (ANA) is giving away free domestic flights this winter. The offer is specifically for passengers traveling from Europe.
Additionally, the offer is only valid for economy class and between November 24, 2025, and January 31, 2026. It’s a relatively short window to take advantage of the offer. However, it could be interesting for some travelers. Only the cost of the flight to Japan applies—thanks to ANA’s offer, passengers can book two free stopovers. According to the airline, the flights are free, but passengers should note that taxes or visa fees may apply.

Why Are There Free Flights at All?
Some might wonder what the catch is with such an offer. Why would an airline just give away flights? The answer is simple: The initiative aims to better distribute the masses of tourists. Hotspots like Tokyo or Kyoto are to be relieved, directing tourists to destinations in the interior of the country.
As the “Time Out” magazine explains, ANA wants to make exploring other regions within Japan easier and more affordable with the free flights, while simultaneously curbing overtourism at the country’s major hubs.
Wide Selection of Domestic Flights
ANA flies to more than 40 destinations within Japan—tourists have a wide selection to use their free flights. The airline’s website lists several examples. For instance, one could fly from any airport in Europe to Tokyo, spend a few days there, and then take a free flight to Okinawa. Afterward, it would be back to Tokyo and then home again.
