The booking platform “Skyscanner” has announced the trending travel destinations for 2026. According to their own information, tens of thousands of data points were analyzed to determine what travelers from Germany prefer and value. The results compared travel destinations that saw an increase in flight search queries for trips between January 1 and June 30, 2025, compared to the previous year. With an increase of 275 percent, one city tops the list of trending travel destinations for 2026.
1st Place: San José del Cabo, Mexico
The destination with the largest increase in search queries is San José del Cabo in Mexico. Unlike perhaps Cancún, Tulum, or Mexico City, San José del Cabo is somewhat lesser-known. Cabo San Lucas, another well-known vacation spot in Mexico, is nearby. Both locations are in the southern part of the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. However, San José del Cabo is quieter, with many boutique hotels, small galleries, and cozy restaurants. In contrast, Cabo San Lucas offers a lively nightlife.
You can relax on the endlessly long stretches of beach, where you usually have peace and quiet. The best swimming beach is considered to be Playa Palmilla, about 15 minutes from the town center. With a 156 percent increase in flight search queries, Oradea takes second place. The city in Romania is located near the Hungarian border and is not yet very well-known.
