Egypt plans to focus on tourism in the coming years and attract even more vacationers. Several mega-projects are planned for this purpose, with the latest one recently launched.
Currently, three mega-construction projects are underway directly on Egypt’s coast. The country aims to strengthen the tourism sector and draw more vacationers to the Red Sea, making Egypt even more attractive to travelers. According to “egypttoday,” Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly broke ground on the latest project, “Il Monte Galala,” earlier this week. He emphasized that the project aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to attract 30 million tourists annually.
“Il Monte Galala Towers and Marina”
The mega-project “Il Monte Galala Towers and Marina” is an extension of Galala City near Ain Sokhna, about 100 miles from Cairo. According to “egypttoday,” Galala City was originally conceived as a relief for Cairo and has since developed into a regional education and tourism center. The planned city is not yet fully open, but the university is operational.
“Il Monte Galala Towers and Marina” aims to create a maritime connection between the mountains and the coast. Planned on 116 acres are ten multipurpose towers, 2,600 residential and hotel units, and an international marina with berths for more than 150 yachts. Additionally, a convention center is planned to host conferences and trade shows in the future. The costs are estimated at approximately 898 million euros. Construction is set to begin in the second half of 2026, with completion expected in just seven years. By 2033, the vision is for the mega-project to attract guests year-round.

“Marassi Red Sea”
South of Hurghada, another luxury area is being developed to boost tourism: “Marassi Red Sea.” Construction is taking place on about 3.9 square miles, with completion expected in just four years. Planned are floating accommodations, similar to those in the Maldives, twelve luxury hotels, and a marina with a yacht harbor. There will also be artificial lagoons and private beaches. Additionally, more than 500 shops and a 1,300-foot promenade are planned, along with numerous sports and wellness facilities and restaurants.
The mega-project aims not only to attract more tourists to Egypt but also to create jobs. According to “travelnews,” about 170,000 jobs are planned during construction, with 25,000 expected to remain long-term.
Mega-City “Alam Al-Roum”
And there are big plans for the future in northern Egypt as well. In Alam Al-Roum, a completely new luxury city is set to emerge. Together with Qatar, the country plans to implement a billion-dollar project and boost visitor numbers through the coastal city. On an area of about 7.7 square miles and along a roughly 4.3-mile-long coastal strip, a new Mediterranean Riviera could emerge, featuring picturesque lagoons and dream beaches ideal for vacationers.
The plan includes a coastal city with luxury resorts and major hotel chains, as well as villas and residential complexes. Additionally, there will be a marina, shops, and restaurants, along with leisure, educational, and health facilities. By 2030, the first neighborhoods are expected to be ready for occupancy.
