With an area of 1,000 square meters, a total of eight production lines, and 40 digital ordering terminals, the recently opened McDonald’s at Palma Airport is the largest in all of Europe. However, not everyone has the opportunity to visit it.
At the departure terminal of Palma de Mallorca Airport, McDonald’s opened its largest branch in Europe in May. The fast-food restaurant spans 1,000 square meters and is located in the airport’s security area, specifically on level P30, module A. However, it is not accessible to everyone.
Largest McDonald’s in Europe Not Accessible to Everyone
The area where the largest McDonald’s in Europe is located is, according to the “Mallorca Magazin,” exclusively accessible to travelers whose flights are headed to countries outside the Schengen Area. This means that Germans flying back home from Mallorca cannot take advantage of the new offering.
About 1,000 People on the Balearic Islands Work for McDonald’s
The new McDonald’s branch at Palma de Mallorca Airport is equipped with 40 digital ordering terminals and eight production lines. The opening creates around 200 new jobs, bringing McDonald’s total to approximately 1,000 employees on the Balearic Islands, spread across more than 20 locations.

The branch is part of a comprehensive renovation of Son Sant Joan Airport. In this context, there is also an increased influence of American restaurant chains. For the past two years, United Airlines has been offering direct flights from Newark to Palma again—whether this is related to the choice of location remains open. However, those who decide to fly to the U.S. via Mallorca could, as Germans, visit the largest McDonald’s in Europe.
