New flight connections, more frequencies, additional aircraft–Eurowings is expanding its presence at Berlin’s BER airport next year. TRAVELBOOK reveals what’s behind the ambitious summer program and which connections will be added.

Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings continues to invest in the Berlin location and is expanding its summer flight schedule for 2026 with six new direct destinations. With London, Lisbon, and Sarajevo, three new European cities are being added to the flight program. Additionally, the airline is expanding its offerings to include Olbia (Sardinia), Naples, and Kavala (Greece). This brings the route network at BER to 43 direct connections in 20 countries.

Six New Destinations Starting Summer 2026

“The measures decided by the federal government help us stabilize and partially expand our offerings for flights to European countries. This is particularly evident in Berlin. With our new connections, we are strengthening our presence in the capital. We are deliberately investing in the BER location because we see the region’s potential and want to offer the people in Berlin and Brandenburg an even more diverse European network,” said Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings.

The background is the recent decision by the coalition leaders to reduce the tax burden on the aviation industry in Germany (TRAVELBOOK reported). The demands from airlines and airports for relief from taxes, fees, and charges in Germany had become increasingly vocal. Eurowings CEO Bischof also urged the federal government a few months ago in an interview with TRAVELBOOK to promote air traffic more and provide economic relief.

Expansion of the Berlin Fleet and More Flights per Week

Airport CEO Aletta von Massenbach also views the expansion of Eurowings’ offerings at BER positively and sees it as a clear commitment by the airline to the capital region.

With the stationing of two additional aircraft, Eurowings increases the number of its planes at BER to a total of nine. The expansion is particularly evident in the offerings to London-Heathrow: Up to twelve weekly flights are planned. There will be up to three weekly connections to Lisbon.

More Frequencies on Existing Vacation Routes

In addition to the new routes, Eurowings is also increasing frequencies on popular vacation destinations. Palma de Mallorca will receive six additional weekly connections, Stockholm five, and Zurich and Split two each. New flights are also being added to Bilbao, Faro, Gothenburg, Helsinki, and Larnaca–each with one additional connection per week.

The airline is also adding to the new tourist routes: Olbia will be served twice weekly, as will Naples, Sarajevo, and Kavala during the peak season.

Competitors Pursue Different Strategy

While Eurowings is strategically investing in expanding its presence at BER airport, competitor Condor is taking a different path due to rising location costs in Germany. The vacation airline is strategically aligning internationally and increasingly shifting parts of its business abroad. New feeder flights from 2026 from cities such as Barcelona, Venice, and Budapest are intended to specifically strengthen long-haul connections to Frankfurt. “We see a demand for our long-haul connections there. We would like to fly more, but it has to be economically viable,” explained CEO Peter Gerber in November in an interview with BILD.
