In the mood for a different kind of breakfast? Try Shakshuka. This Israeli national dish is quick to make and tastes great not only in the morning but also as lunch or dinner.
Shakshuka is a vegetarian dish offered on every street corner in Israel. But you don’t have to wait for your next vacation to try the Israeli national dish! If you’re eager to transport yourself to sunny Israel, you can easily do so from home. Shakshuka is a simple dish you can cook with ingredients you likely already have.
The immense popularity of Shakshuka is evident from the fact that countless countries argue over its origins. Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and, of course, Israel all lay claim to the dish. Shakshuka likely originated in North Africa, but Israel has made it a national dish.
Besides the classic version, there are some lesser-known variations like green Shakshuka, which is based on spinach, as well as cheese or meat Shakshuka. Incidentally, the word Shakshuka comes from Arabic and literally translates to “a random mixture.” If that doesn’t encourage you to try making it, nothing will! You can also see how easy it is in the video above.
